What do I need to bring for my appointments?
You need to bring your previous medical records including the films of X-rays and CT/MRI scans. Compact discs (CD) containing your MRI/CT scan images, if available, will be more helpful to have a detailed analysis of the images. Having all the records and imaging will make it easier to help you guide through the optimum treatment and recovery.
Do I need an X-ray before my appointment?
For first consult, patient will be evaluated with detailed history and clinical examination before he/she is advised suitable imaging. Additionally, it will be helpful to bring along previous X-rays and scans especially related to fractures and OA knee for comparative assessment.
Do I need an MRI scan of my Knee?
MRI scan provides detailed information of the soft tissue (muscles, tendon, ligament, cartilage, fat pad) of the knee joint along with subtle injuries to the underlying bone (occult fractures, bone bruises). However, for analysis of bony conditions, an X-ray or a CT scan is more informative. Only after the clinical evaluation an MRI scan maybe needed to confirm the problem and to aid further plan of management. An MRI scan takes time, unlike X-ray which is quick, and so a subsequent follow-up will be needed to review the imaging and reports. Always ask for a compact disc (CD) containing your MRI/CT (DICOM images) from the Diagnostic centre you visit for the investigation.
What should I wear to the consultation?
For clinical examination, it is advisable to wear loose pants or shorts for easy access to knees. Avoid wearing slim or tight pants.
